We had our first OB appointment today and I have been a ball of nerves the passed few days. Monday night I didn't sleep well at all. Last night I figured I wouldn't be able to sleep either since it was the night before the big day....but I zonked out a lil before 9 and slept all through the night. woot!
The doctor's visit was an adventure, in a good way. I really like the Women's Clinic. They got me back right away for a urine sample and weight check. Then we went right in to have the ultra sound. I was a lil nervous about the ultrasound because it was an internal one since it is too early for a normal on top of the belly ultrasound, but it was fine. It was very cool. There's only one baby in there and he looked like kind of like a peanut. I have a cyst on each of my ovaries but they say that's normal, it's just where I released my egg (maybe eggS.. yikes) and it should go away soon. So no worries. Jacob saw the heart beat, I couldn't really see it. But we got to hear the heart beat loud and clear at 170 bpm. Which I'm told is great. The nurse guessed that it's a girl because of the fast heart beat, we'll see. The baby measured in at 2.0 cm and they said all of my measurements match what they should at this date. I'm 8 weeks, 5 days exactly the amount of time since my last period. Here's some of the pictures..

I probably should have scanned the pictures onto the computer but instead I told a pic with my phone. My next (and possible last) ultrasound is Aug. 27
th this is where they check the organs and look for any problems and find out the sex. fun fun. They said they usually only do the 2 ultrasounds unless you have some problems and they need extra ones.
After the ultrasound we met with on of the OB nurses. I bet she talked to us for over an hour. She checked my BP (117/70) and talked about how things have been going so far, what to expect in the future, what I can and can't do (apparently bull riding is out- she actually had a patient ask her that), what I can and can't eat, what drugs are ok, took a complete family medical history, and answered all our questions. I really liked having someone sit us down and talking about all of it. She said I don't have any risk factors and everything looks great so far. Then we went to the exam room to meet with the Doctor. We waited 30mins and talked to him for 5 mins. At this point I'm starving, feeling weak and nauseous so I'm wanting him to hurry up. He tells us that all is well and sends me to get blood drawn. I get 3 HUGE (probably normal size but in my "I hate blood" mind they are huge) vials and 2 smaller vials of blood drawn. Yuck. at this point I feel yucky. All I can think of is I want food! haha. We go to the front desk to schedule our next few appointment and then I start feeling sick, I can't hear anything and my vision gets kinda grayish black. Yep I came *this* close to making it in and out without embarrassing myself and then at the very end I about pass out and freak out all the nurses. fun times.
All in all a great day. We went to Sam's afterwards and got hot dogs for lunch and then Jacob had to go to work. I was off the whole day since I wasn't sure how long the appointment would take. I'm glad I was off because it did take quite a while and I was exhausted (mostly mentally)afterwards I've been lounging around and resting. good times. Also apparently when you have a baby you get lots of free stuff...

I got a welcome packet from the clinic with books, magazines, sample formula, coupons, a cd that helps you design your birth announcements, a diaper, and lots of random info. Similac sponsored this pregnancy journal and during one of my 2nd tri visits I'll get an overnight/toiletry type bag from Similac filled with coupons and such, and then apparently at the hospital they give me a shoulder bag with free formula and bottles. Free bag with baby. The nurse said they suggest breastfeeding but they go ahead and give out the similac gifts. I hope I won't need the formula but who knows.
I feel like the cat is being slowly let out of the bag way too soon! ahh but they don't call me MOTS (Mouth Of The South) because I'm a good secret keeper. I told Haley, Tucker (last Thursday), Lauren (Saturday) and I just told Matt minutes ago. AND Jacob just texted me and said he told everyone at work! And I gave my mom freedom to tell Terry's (her new hubby) family as long as it doesn't make it to FB. That alot of telling in the past few days. Dad asked if he could announce it on his FB status today! haha I think he was joking. Anyways. My plan is to tell my managers at work before I leave for vacay because I really don't want it to leak to FB and then all my co-worker FB friends find out before my managers but I feel like that would be rude. So I'm guessing the cat will completely be outta the bag at 10 weeks, just a lil earlier than planned. I was really nervous about people finding out before this first appointment, because for all I know we could have gotten there today and find out I wasn't knocked up. But I feel better about it today knowing it's real and healthy.
That's all for now!
I thought about you all day today...
ReplyDeleteFirst, let me just say, what a BEAUTIFUL baby!!!! Your little gummy bear looks just perfect and I'm so excited for you. Wasn't seeing that ultrasound the coolest moment of your life?! It makes it so real!
So glad to hear that your BP was great and that Baby Hamilton is measuring right on target. I ended up spilling the beans at 10 weeks, too-- there's no rule that you have to wait until 12 weeks! I just couldn't keep my mouth shut after I told my parents, I was so excited.
I am so happy for you guys!! Hope the morning sickness goes away soon and I can't wait to read more updates and maybe see some belly pics! XOXO!
what a day...
ReplyDeleteYaaay! And, oh by the way, the due date in your title should be 2011, unless one of those machines they hooked you up to was a time machine ;0) Only 7 more months ... can't wait!
